Affirmations do work. Here is why yours might not.

Part 1 of 3: Manifestation, Frequency and the Art of the Affirmation

The subject of using affirmations, or positive words, to manifest what you really want in your life, is a hot topic right now.

It seems to have arisen from the issues some people have with them: the mind throws up objections, valid objections, to the positive statements being made. An example of this is the affirmation “I am wealthy and abundant” while knowing full well that you are struggling to meet your monthly financial obligations. The mind, confronted with this statement, is thrown into disarray, and you experience cognitive dissonance. Under these circumstances, the affirmation absolutely will not and cannot work.

The single biggest issue is that the first rule of manifestation is being ignored: feel and see what you want. Do not think it. Feel it.

Without the visceral feeling of what it is you want, the first principle of human life has been ignored: we are physical human beings, having a physical experience, and therefore our physical body is the mode of experience. Unless we acknowledge this, and work within this paradigm, the essential experience of being human, as physical, is ignored. How then do we expect another aspect of that physicality to come into being?

We have to acknowledge and work with the vehicle of expression we have, and that is the physical body itself.

So, when we physically feel what it is we want, we enter the realm of physical manifestation: that place where things happen and become real to us. Physically manifest.

Why We Feel Resistance to Affirmations

One of the most important tools for feeling is the use of emotions, because the stronger we feel about something, the more we physically feel it in the body.

This is the case for both positive and negative emotions. And that brings us back to why some people have a problem with affirmations: the words create a negative feeling in them, because of their associated experiences, for example of poverty, of not having enough. This leads instantly to the feeling that is the opposite of what you want to create. It creates resistance as our minds shout “No, not true!” And so the affirmation fails.

Intellectualising is the next big anti-manifestation trap.

The mind is the mode of the ego when it values itself above all things and ignores feelings. Bear in mind that the feeling mode of the physical body is distinctly different from emotions.

·       Emotions are highly charged things which begin with a thought or an experience, powered up by the chemicals of the human body.

·       Feeling is a knowing, more of an intuition. It is that sense of knowing something is right or wrong, true or false. It is an absolute state, beyond obvious intellectual reason. It happens in a fleeting first moment when we encounter something or somebody, and it is this feeling that allows us to know something.

After that first moment of feeling, we have a choice:

·       Either flow with it and follow its natural course,

·       Or question and distrust it by allowing the might of the intellect to get involved.

When we start to intellectualise something, we bring to it the full force of our conditioning, conscious and subconscious. Along with this come all our fears, prejudices, hopes and needs, and this is the realm of the lower frequency states: guilt, shame, fear and anger.

From this place we also manifest, but we manifest more of the state we are in. When we do this, we can reasonably say that positive affirmations do not work. It is true, they don’t, and they cannot, because they are overridden by the power of other statements, emotions, feelings and visions which are forcefully in play.

If intellectualising is a manifestation trap, then its opposite, going with and surrendering to the feeling, is a manifestation boon.

Understanding the role of detachment from the outcome of what you truly desire is critically important to successful manifestation, because attachment to an outcome always involves fear of some kind.

Attachment amounts to worrying, and worrying sits on the fear continuum.

The minute we engage the lower frequency states – such as fear, guilt, shame or anger – we instantly start to face in their direction, and that becomes our manifestation, rather than what we thought we had put into place. We manifest what we focus upon.

Coming Up in Part 2

So, if feeling is the key, what exactly is it that we are feeling? Energy.

In Part 2, we look at how life energy flows through us rather than from us, what happens when that flow becomes scattered or stuck, and how frequency sets the scene for successful manifestation.
